The Gillian Hughes Memorial Travel Fellowship provides support and assistance to upper year undergraduate students to study abroad for at least one term at an established university in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or Europe. Preference will be given to students in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture specializing in Plant Sciences. 

Eligibility 

-Applicants must be full-time students in the College of Agriculture and Bioresource and be in good academic standing, having achieved a minimum of 75% on the most recent 60 credit units. 

-Must be a third or fourth year student in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Completed at least 75 credit units of course work relevant to their degree). Preference will be given to students in the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture majoring in a program in the Department of Plant Sciences. 

-Applicants must be approved through the International Student and Study Abroad Centre (ISSAC) to study abroad for least one term at an established university in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or Europe. 

Guidelines 

-All travel undertaken outside of Canada that is affiliated with the University of Saskatchewan (USask) must comply with university-wide travel policies and safety protocols in order to receive university funds. This includes travel organized, funded, or endorsed by USask, whether for academic, research, or extracurricular purposes. All AgBio students and AgBio student clubs must adhere to USask policies when participating in international travel affiliated with USask. The International Travel Guidelines for Students and Student Clubs outline the responsibilities and expectations for AgBio students and clubs to ensure safe, responsible, and compliant international travel. 

-Successful applicants may receive up to $2,500 of funding (proposed budget and other sources of funding will be taken into consideration). 

-Selection will be based on academic achievement and the merits of the submitted statement and budget.

To apply, students should provide the following information to awards.agbio@usask.ca 

-Name and student number 

-Details of the Study Abroad program (location, dates, courses being taken, ISSAC approval, etc.) 

-Detailed budget, including other sources of funding applied for or approved 

-A statement of no more than three pages in length outlining their interest in international activities and out-of-country experiences, as well as benefits of the activity to the student and college 

-The application deadlines are October 15 and February 15. 

Notification and payment 

-Notification of award status will be sent by email 

-Students will receive the payment through direct deposit. Payments will be made 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the Study Abroad term being sponsored.
