USask research receives funding to restore Indigenous geographic place names

Network of Centres of Excellence of Canada has awarded Dr. Colin Laroque (PhD), professor in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, $36,000 through the Canadian Mountain Network for the Shútagot’ıne Cultural Landscape Project (SCLP).

Network of Centres of Excellence of Canada has awarded Dr. Colin Laroque (PhD), professor in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, $36,000 through the Canadian Mountain Network for the Shútagot’ıne Cultural Landscape Project (SCLP).

The project will promote the conservation of cultural values by helping restore Indigenous geographic place names and do archaeological research on cultural places at risk of impact from climate change in the Shútagot’ıne (Mountain Dene) homeland.
