FREE - Compost 101: Scraps to Soil
Gardening General
2-hour class. Compost is a vital part of building and maintaining healthy garden soil. This course will give you a solid understanding of how to make rich compost at home out of kitchen scraps and yard waste. We will learn the basic, 5-step recipe for a successful compost pile as well as how to troubleshoot common problems. We will also cover how to get a compost pile to heat up, and when that is necessary. In addition to discussing compost bins and piles we will also talk about several alternative techniques such as trench composting, mulch, vermicompost and compost tea. There will be time for questions at the end of the session.
Free 2 hour, live-streamed class provided through our Healthy Yards Partnership and funded by the City of Saskatoon.

Format
This class is offered in an online, live-stream format that you can access from your computer, phone or tablet. Your distance class will include your instructor and their presentation live on-screen and the ability for you to ask questions through the course chat. You will not receive a recording nor handouts for this class, but we're confident you will get good educational value.
We've tested the technology in recent classes and our students report that it is quite simple to use both on computers and on personal devices like tablets and phones. We will send you instructions in your receipt and before the class along with a contact help you in case there are any issues connecting. It's been remarkably stable for everyone with a strong internet connection. If you have a weak internet connection you might have problems, though we've only had this issue with people in isolated areas. Since there is a call-in option for sound, you will still be able to hear but you may not be able to see the instructor and slides if you have a poor internet connection.
