Sour Cherry Cookbook Wins Canadian Cookbook Award

Cooking with Cherries...From the Priairies has been awarded the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for 2012.

The cookbook by authors Cecilia Kachkowski, Lily Sawatzky and Loretta Bors was designed to help cooks with exciting and new ideas and ways to use their bountiful harvest of sour cherries in their recipes.

The sour cherry (sometimes referred to as the Prairie Cherry) was developed by Dr. Bob Bors at the University of Saskatchewan in the Department of Plant Sciences.  He and long term technician Rick Sawatzky have released several sour cherry varieties including the Romance Series of Romeo, Juliet and Cupid.

The cookbook can be purchased from the University of Saskatchewan book store.  All royalties of the sale of the cookbook are given back to the University of Saskatchewan Fruit program.  http://www.fruit.usask.ca/
