Introducing the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics

The Department of Bioresource Policy, Business and Economics in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources has changed to a new name to better align with the main focus areas in the department. The new name, the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE), encompasses agribusiness, agricultural and food policy, and resource and environmental economics, which are the primary teaching and research areas of the department.

Over the years it has become apparent the old name was too complicated and difficult to remember by stakeholders.  As Agricultural and Resource Economics is a fairly common name in the agricultural economics profession, the name should resonate strongly with internal and external stakeholders.

The new name is also more relevant to the programs in the department which include: undergraduate degrees in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, and Renewable Resource Management (Economics and Policy stream), as well as graduate degrees in Agricultural Economics (M.Sc. and Ph.D.).
