Research Interests

Dr. Chantel Chizen leads research on advancing sustainable land management through digital pedology and pedometrics. Her work integrates our understanding of soil processes with geospatial methods to improve soil-landscape modeling for both agriculture and the environment. Through fieldwork and applied technologies, such as remote sensing and machine learning, she investigates soil carbon storage in agroecosystems, wetland management, and soil variability across field- and landscape-scales. Her research also addresses soil salinity in the Prairies and the development of best practices for soil data management. Through her research program, Chantel prioritizes interdisciplinary partnerships with farmers, researchers, and collaborators to ensure that her work meets the needs of the agriculture sector and enhances soil stewardship.
