Growing Fruit in Northern Gardens
Gardening General
Two 2-hour online classes, held over two days. Our season is short and our winters are cold, but there are advantages to growing fruit in northern gardens. They are sweeter and contain more antioxidants! And never has the selection been as great. Part I begins with the basic considerations such as hardiness, pollination, soil, water and pruning. Next, the fruit themselves, from the top down: apples, pears, and plums followed by saskatoon berries and haskaps. Part II covers the new sour cherries, raspberries, strawberries, currants, gooseberries and hazelnuts. And, time permitting, sea buckthorn.
$40 plus GST for two 2 hour, live-streamed classes held over two days: May 11 and May 13, 7-9 pm both days. Registration is for a single student in one household. If multiple students will be viewing from the same location, each additional student is $20. Course fees are non-refundable.
Class times are in Saskatchewan time - CST, no daylight savings. Registration closes one hour before the class starts. Register here or email us at conference.events@usask.ca. Office hours are 8:00 am - 4:00 pm and any emails after this time will be answered the next business day.

Format
This class is offered in an online, live-stream format that you can access from your computer, phone or tablet. Your distance class will include your instructor and their presentation live on-screen and the ability for you to ask questions through the course chat. You will not receive a recording nor handouts for this class, but we're confident you will get good educational value.
Our students report the technology is quite simple to use both on computers and on personal devices like tablets and phones. We will send you instructions one hour before the class along with a contact help you in case there are any issues connecting. It's been remarkably stable for everyone with a strong internet connection. If you have a weak internet connection you might have audio problems, though we've only had this issue with people in isolated areas. Since there is a call-in option for sound, you will still be able to hear but you may not be able to see the instructor and slides if you have a poor internet connection.
