Work With Us

Soil Workshop Series - 2025

SAGE Icon  Understanding Land with Soil Sampling

In this hands-on workshop, we will explore community soils and how soil sampling can help us understand the land. We will cover why we take soil samples, how to create a sampling plan, and how to collect samples for soil testing. Participants will collect soil samples from a field or area of interest to the community. Some samples will be sent to a commercial lab, and some will be processed in the University's soil lab. We will go over the results together in a future workshop.

SAGE Icon Soil Test Interpretation and Management

In this workshop, we will return to discuss and interpret the soil test results for the samples we took together. We will go over the soil test results and discuss what they mean, what's important to look for, and what might be missing from the picture. We'll explore how our results can help make management
decisions and discuss management options.

SAGE Icon Soil Mapping Using SKSIS

In this workshop, participants will learn to use the Saskatchewan Soil Information System (SKSIS interactive soil mapping platform). Together we will explore how to find and interpret broadscale soil information for your community, how to interpret soil map units and apply the information to your
landscape, and how we can use the tool while out on the land.

We could potentially offer additional workshops on other topics, e.g. drone imagery analysis, medicinal plant harvesting, agricultural field tours, seed saving, food sovereignty, etc.
