Herbarium Workshop For Artists

The 2026 Workshop for Artists was held at the W.P. Fraser Herbarium on March 30 & 31. The workshop was organized by Monika Kinner, a local textile artist from Saskatoon. Monika brought together several artists with an interest in using the herbarium's dried and preserved plant collection of Saskatchewan native flora into their work. Over the two day event, the participants used specimens in a number of sketching exercises to get their creative juices flowing.

They were then introduced to the plants of the Canadian Shield by Sarah Vinge-Mazer who shared her wealth of knowledge with everyone.

The second day was filled with examining several plants using the stereo-microscopes and diving deeper into the detail of each plant.
