Flax, in addition to being a significant agricultural crop, is also one of the most attractive crops grown in Saskatchewan due to it's bright blue flowers.
Saskatchewan is a world-leading producer of oilseed flax in terms of both quality and quantity. As most of Saskatchewan's flaxseed is exported it provides an important boost to the Province's economy.
The Flax Breeding Program in the Crop Development Centre at the University of Saskatchewan is lead by Interim Flax breeder Bunyamin Tar'an. The Flax Breeding Program develops cultivars adapted for the Canadian Prairies and performs research that aims to improve flax production.
