The Economic Potential of Nutrient-Dense Food Supply Chains in Ethiopia
In early 2019, China suspended the export licenses of two of Canada’s largest canola exporters, effectively barring canola seed imports from Canada. Following the suspensions, the amount of Canadian canola seed held in storage reached an all time high and the price of canola futures fell sharply and have yet to recover. The suspensions added uncertainty to an already uneasy oilseed market; a trade war between America and China saw China levy substantial tariffs against American soybeans in mid-2018. This study examines oilseed prices in the aftermath of the Canadian and American trade disputes with China, taking advantage of the cointegrating relationship between oilseed prices to examine the effects of each dispute on the price of canola.
