Dervan's short term goal is to gain research experience in animal nutrition at the Ph.D. and post doctoral level. His long term goals are to establish a career in academia while improving the livlihood of rural poutlry farming families through research and extension.
Dervan completed his undergraduate degree in 2011 at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and a M.Sc. at Dalhousie University in 2013 under the supervision of Dr. Derek Anderson. He is currently a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr. Classen with a project titled, "In vitro and in vivo assessment of the rate and extent of protein digestion in high protein feed ingredients using a broiler model." Dervan's research involves elucidating the biochemical mechanisms of protein digestion in poultry and determining its impact on gut physiology and nutrient transport.
Though Dervan enjoys playing soccer and volleyball, fishing and industrial designing, his favourite new hobby is playing with his daughter, Odhalia, who was born in Febraury 2015!
