The Crop Development Centre (CDC) is a field crop research organization within the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan. CDC scientists integrate basic research with genetic improvement of spring wheat, durum, canaryseed, barley, oat, flax, field pea, lentil, chickpea, fababean and dry bean.
The CDC was created in 1971, and has released nearly 300 commercial crop varieties since its inception. The CDC is recognized nationally and internationally for basic and applied crop research and development and successful field crop breeding. CDC scientists work with many partners acress the public and private sector to achieve their objectives.
Unique to the CDC is its full integration into the Department of Plant Sciences and College of Agriculture and Bioresources at the University of Saskatchewan. This integration allows a powerful blend of scientific knowledge, training and skills from a number of disciplines to be applied to each research undertaking. The CDC also plays a strong and sustained role in training new scientists and technical personnel, serving the present and future needs of plant sciences and plant breeding.
